| | Maintaining your cost of Insurance for your Corvette - Posted Friday, June 11, 2010As of March 30, 2010, new vehicle dealers are required to make available to prospective purchasers information regarding comparitive insurance costs, based on damage susceptibility and crashworthiness, for makes and models of passenger cars, sports utility vehicles, light trucks and vans. The report is "Comparison of differences in insurance premiums based on damage susceptibility" -- which means the average payment from the insurance company to the owner for the Collision part of the insurance policy.
If you do not purchase Collision coverage or your insurance company does not use the HLDI information, your premium will not vary at all in relation to the rankings. In short, on a scale of 100 basis points, Collision coverage on a regular Corvette insurance costs them less than average - only 88 points. On the other hand, a Z06 has a "collision loss experience" of 206% - more then double the average.
Both Corvettes are listed on page 11 of this report:
The report is available at http://www.nhtsa.gov/staticfiles/administration/program_development/2010_Comparison_Insurance_Costs.pdf Crash Worthiness is a different thing. Test data relation to a vehicle's crash worthiness is available from HHTSA's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
This information is available at www.SafeCar.Gov Keep the Sunny side up and the dirty side down!

The Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition is another example of the expanded Corvette line-up. Five years ago, customers had the choice of a Corvette coupe or convertible. With the addition of the Z06, Grand Sport coupe and convertible and ZR1, Corvette enthusiasts now have more choices than ever. Learn more about the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition here.
